Rooms and tables

A big table,
a function room or
the whole place.

Three ways to bring everyone, and none of them carries a hire fee or a minimum spend. A big table seats up to 16 downstairs, in the middle of everything; the upstairs is yours any day we are open from Sunday to Thursday, and at lunch on a Friday or Saturday; and for the whole place, any day but a Friday or Saturday, we price the night with you.

Occasions we host

Birthdays,
engagements,
the quieter ones.

A party here eats from the same kitchen and drinks from the same bar as every other table in the house, and the food comes out together. Tell us what the day is for, and we will shape the room, the food, the drinks and the timings around it.

Birthdays

Long tables upstairs or a big table downstairs, the food and drinks you ask for, and your own cake to finish, candles lit.

Engagements

Dinner upstairs or a party for everyone, with the toast poured from whatever you choose on the drinks list.

Christenings and baby showers

An afternoon upstairs, Thursday to Sunday from 12:00, until 17:00 on a Friday or Saturday. Food put together around the day, the children’s menu, tea, and something alcohol-free for anyone not drinking.

Leaving drinks

A drinks reception or a meal at the table, with the food and drinks put together around what you ask for. Client lunches, away days and the office party are under corporate events.

Christmas parties

The festive menu, from Tuesday 1 December to Thursday 24 December, at a big table downstairs or upstairs (on a Friday or Saturday, upstairs is for lunch only): Christmas dinner from £32 a head and, from Monday 7 December, Christmas lunch from £27. Deposits and the rest are set out on the Christmas page.

The night before a wedding

For two families meeting properly, or the guests who have travelled in. A sit-down dinner upstairs from Sunday to Thursday, or at a big table downstairs on a Friday or Saturday, finished in good time for the morning.

After a funeral

Arranged quietly, and often at short notice. Ring 01254 824 465 and we will tell you what we can do in the time there is: something to eat, tea, coffee or a drink, upstairs if it is free.

Corporate events

For the company,
on the company.

Lunch with a client, a day away for the team, or a party for the whole office. The food and drinks are put together around what you ask for, and you have the price before you book.

Client lunches and dinners

At a big table downstairs for 8 to 16, or upstairs for up to 36 with the room to yourselves, which on a Friday or Saturday is at lunch only. Everyone chooses a week ahead, so the plates come out together.

Team lunches and away days

Upstairs, with a screen for the presentations and lunch at the same tables. Any time we are open from Sunday to Thursday, and on a Friday or Saturday from 12:00 to 17:00.

Christmas and summer parties

A big table for up to 16, or the upstairs for 36 seated or 50 standing, which on a Friday or Saturday is at lunch only. For everyone at once, the whole place: around 70 seated or around 100 standing, any day but a Friday or Saturday.

Launches and drinks receptions

Up to 50 standing upstairs, or around 100 across the whole place, with the drinks and any food settled with you ahead. On a Friday or Saturday, it is the upstairs at lunch only.

Wi-Fi, a screen and an invoice

A screen for presentations upstairs, and Wi-Fi for your guests. The bill can be invoiced to the company instead of paid on the night: say so when you enquire.

Planning with us

From the first email
to the last plate.

  1. Tell us the date

Enquire below, by email or on 01254 824 465. A date, a rough number of guests, the occasion and what you have in mind are all we need to begin.

  2. We come back with a plan

The space, a menu and the drinks, put together around what you asked for, and what it all comes to. For anything off the menu, we ask the kitchen before we say yes.

  3. A deposit holds the date

A card authorisation of £5 a head when you book. No money is taken unless it is a no-show, and once it is in place, the date is yours.

  4. Choose the food a week ahead

For a seated meal, we send you a pre-order sheet; return it with a name against each dish and any dietary needs beside it. For a standing party, we settle the food with you ahead, with the numbers and any dietary needs. Final numbers 48 hours before.

  5. On the day

The tables are laid before your guests arrive, with any drinks you arranged ready to pour. The kitchen sends the food at the time we agreed and the cake when you give the word. Nothing is taken against the card authorisation: it was only ever there for a no-show.

Paying

On the night, or invoiced to the company instead: say which when you enquire.

Food and drinks

Food and drinks packages are put together around what you ask for, and you have the price before you book.

Numbers

Final numbers 48 hours before; for a seated meal, the food chosen a week ahead. The kitchen cooks for that number.

Cake

Bring your own. We plate it, at no charge.

Decorations

Welcome, with no confetti or glitter, please, and nothing fixed to the walls.

Music

Our playlist in the background. Your own playlist, a DJ or live music upstairs, by arrangement.

Screen and Wi-Fi

A screen for presentations upstairs, and Wi-Fi for your guests.

Dogs

Welcome, as on any other night. Tell us how many, and we will make room under the table.

Children

Welcome, with their own menu: a burger, pasta, nuggets or fish fingers, then ice cream by the scoop. For an evening party, tell us their numbers and ages, and we will say how late they can stay.

Dietary needs

Note them on the pre-order, or tell us when we plan the food. A good share of the menu is already vegan or vegetarian. We cannot guarantee that any dish is free from all allergens; tell us before you order, and we will tell you honestly what we can do.

Step-free access

The bar and dining room are on the ground floor, level apart from one small step. If any of your guests need step-free access, mention it when you enquire and we will plan around it.

Questions

What people ask
before a party.

Do you have a private function room in Whalley?

Yes. The upstairs is on King Street in the middle of Whalley, about ten minutes from Clitheroe by road. It seats 36, or holds 50 standing. Laid with long tables, it is a private dining room; cleared, it holds a party. It is yours any time we are open from Sunday to Thursday, and at lunch, 12:00 to 17:00, on a Friday or Saturday. There is no charge for the room and no minimum spend.

How much does it cost to hire the upstairs?

There is no hire fee and no minimum spend: you pay for what your party eats and drinks. We put the food and drinks together around what you ask for, and you have the price before you book. A card authorisation of £5 a head holds the date, and no money is taken unless it is a no-show. What a party comes to shows how it adds up.

How many people can you take?

For 8 to 16 guests, there is a big table downstairs, with nothing to hire and no minimum spend. Upstairs, 36 seated or 50 standing. Across the two floors, the whole place takes around 70 seated, depending on the layout, or around 100 standing, any day but a Friday or Saturday.

Do you offer private dining?

Yes. The upstairs is laid for up to 36, at long tables or a few smaller ones, any time we are open from Sunday to Thursday and at lunch on a Friday or Saturday. Choose the set menu Sunday to Friday (not from Monday 7 December to Saturday 2 January), the festive menu from Tuesday 1 December to Thursday 24 December, or tell us what you would like from the food menu, and we put the menu together with you. Your guests’ choices reach us a week ahead, so every plate arrives together.

Can we hire the whole place?

Yes, any day but a Friday or Saturday, Mondays included, our usual night off. We close to everyone else for you, in December too: downstairs and upstairs, for around 70 seated, depending on the layout, or around 100 standing, priced by quote and for the hours we agree with you.

Can you host a corporate event?

Yes. Client lunches and dinners at a big table or upstairs, team lunches and away days upstairs, Christmas and summer parties, and launches and drinks receptions for up to 50 standing upstairs or around 100 across the whole place. The upstairs is yours any time we are open from Sunday to Thursday, and at lunch, 12:00 to 17:00, on a Friday or Saturday; the whole place, any day but a Friday or Saturday. There is a screen for presentations upstairs and Wi-Fi for your guests, and the bill can be invoiced to the company instead of paid on the night.

What time can a party start, and how late can it go on?

Lunch parties from 12:00, Thursday to Sunday; on Tuesdays and Wednesdays we open at 17:00. The kitchen serves until 21:00 Tuesday to Thursday, 21:30 on a Friday or Saturday and 20:00 on a Sunday, and we plan the food around that. The party runs until the bar closes: 22:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays and 22:30 on a Thursday. On a Friday or Saturday, the upstairs is hired at lunch only, 12:00 to 17:00, and a big table can stay until we close at 00:30. From Monday 7 to Thursday 31 December we open every day from 12:00, the kitchen too, except Christmas Day, when we are closed. On those Mondays we close at 22:00 and the kitchen serves until 21:00; on Thursday 17 December we close at 16:00 for a private event. On New Year’s Eve we close at 16:00 too, and from 19:30 we are open for the New Year’s Eve party, tickets only.

Do we have to pre-order?

For a seated meal, yes, a week ahead, at a big table as well as upstairs. It is how one kitchen sends out every hot plate at once, each to the right guest. For a standing party, we settle the food with you ahead, with the numbers and any dietary needs. Children order on the day.

What if fewer people come than we said?

Final numbers are due 48 hours before, and that is the number the kitchen cooks for, so let us know as soon as you can.

What happens to the deposit if we cancel?

Nothing is taken in the first place. The deposit is a card authorisation of £5 a head, and no money is charged unless it is a no-show. If the date moves or the party is off, let us know as soon as you can.

Can we arrange the drinks ahead?

Yes. Tell us what you have in mind, and we put the drinks together around it and price them with the food. Or your guests buy their own at the bar, as on any night: eight cocktails are two for £16 Sunday to Friday, except from Monday 7 December to Saturday 2 January.

Can we see the upstairs first?

Yes. Ring 01254 824 465 and we will find a time to show you round before you book.

How much notice do you need?

For a seated meal, at least a week, since that is when the food is chosen. December dates go soonest, so ask as soon as you have one in mind.

Do you host Christmas parties?

Yes, at a big table downstairs or with the upstairs to yourselves, which on a Friday or Saturday is at lunch only. The festive menu runs from Tuesday 1 December to Thursday 24 December. Christmas dinner is two courses £32 or three £39; Christmas lunch, from Monday 7 December, two courses £27 or three £34. The Christmas page has the full menu and New Year’s Eve. We are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Can you host a gathering after a funeral?

Yes. Ring us on 01254 824 465, whatever the notice, and we will let you know what we can arrange: the room, the food and the timings.
