The place

A bar and kitchen in the heart of Whalley.

Vault is a restaurant in Whalley, on King Street in the middle of the village. The bar and the dining room are downstairs, there is a quieter floor above, and out the back is a garden that fills up the moment the sun comes out.

Business lunch, date night, a table of ten on a Friday. Whatever the occasion, the idea is the same. Dishes built on Lancashire produce, cocktails made with care, and service that feels like being looked after. We have become the place people meet in Whalley, Clitheroe and the rest of the Ribble Valley, and we like it that way.

On King Street in Whalley, in the Ribble Valley, about ten minutes from Clitheroe by road. Whalley station, on the Clitheroe line, is about a fifteen-minute walk. We are a restaurant and a cocktail bar in one.

Do you have outdoor seating?

Yes. The garden out the back fills up the moment the sun comes out, and the spritz list was built for it.

Are cocktails really two for £16?

Yes. Eight cocktails from the list are two for £16 all day, Sunday to Friday, and they are marked on the drinks list. Saturday is full price. From Monday 7 December to Saturday 2 January the offer rests, and it is back on Sunday 3 January.

What are the kitchen hours, and the bar hours?

The bar is open Tuesday and Wednesday 17:00–22:00, Thursday 12:00–22:30, Friday and Saturday 12:00–00:30 and Sunday 12:00–22:00. The kitchen serves Tuesday and Wednesday 17:00–21:00, Thursday 12:00–21:00, Friday and Saturday 12:00–21:30 and Sunday 12:00–20:00. Both are closed on Mondays, except bank holidays. From Monday 7 to Thursday 31 December the bar and the kitchen open every day at 12:00, Mondays included, and close at the usual time; on those Mondays the bar closes at 22:00 and the kitchen at 21:00. On Thursday 17 December we close at 16:00 for a private event. On New Year’s Eve, Thursday 31 December, the bar and the kitchen are open as usual from 12:00 to 16:00, and from 19:30 we open again for the New Year’s Eve party, for ticket holders only. We are closed on Christmas Day, Friday 25 December, and on New Year’s Day, Friday 1 January.

Do you have a children’s menu?

Yes. A children’s menu of the things children actually eat: a burger, pasta, nuggets or fish fingers, and ice cream by the scoop to finish.

Do you have vegan and vegetarian food?

Yes. A good share of the menu is vegan or vegetarian, marked VE or V, and several mains come with a vegan option. Ask, and we will find you something.

Are dogs welcome?

Yes. Dogs are welcome, and usually better behaved than the rest of us.

Can you take a big group or a party?

Yes. A big table downstairs takes 8 to 16, with nothing to hire and no minimum spend; everyone pre-orders their food a week ahead. The upstairs takes 36 seated or 50 standing, with no hire fee and no minimum spend, any day we are open from Sunday to Thursday, and on Fridays and Saturdays at lunch, 12:00 to 17:00. The whole place, around 70 seated, depending on the layout, or around 100 standing across the two floors, can be yours any day but a Friday or a Saturday, by quote. For a private party, the food and drinks are put together around what you ask for: tell us the occasion, the numbers and what you have in mind, and we come back with a menu, the drinks and a price. The private hire page has the rooms and how to book them, or email bookings@vaultwhalley.co.uk and we will reply within 48 hours.

Do you take a deposit?

For a big table, the upstairs or a Christmas party, yes: a £5 a head card authorisation when you book. It is a hold on the card, not a charge, and no money is taken unless it is a no-show.
